Via the Robert Ambrogi's Law Sites, the currently most expensive iPhone application (at $999.99) is the complete California Bar Exam Preparation available via an iPhone Application.

The app is over 1 gigabyte in size, which is the largest application I’ve ever seen. It includes thousands of pages of materials as well as hundreds of hours of audio lectures. It’s all the information you could ever want for the two-month course. And again, it can be done all on your iPhone. That said, if you do want some more tangible paperwork for certain sections, BarMax will send you that electronically as well. ~ TechCrunch

Barron's Law Dictionary for iPhone

Via iPhone J.D. Lawyers Using iPhone, an interesting post titled Review: Barron's Law Dictionary for iPhone features a comparative review of three legal dictionaries applications available for iPhone; Black's Law Dictionary, Nolo's Plain English Legal Dictionary, and Barron's Law Dictionary.

Black's Law Dictionary contains over 43,000 definitions and costs $49.99. Nolo's Plain English Law Dictionary contains contains over 3,000 definitions written in plain English and is free.

The Barron's law Dictionary application fits neatly between these two offerings. Like the Nolo dictionary, the Barron's dictionary contains over 3,000 terms. Like Black's, the Barron's dictionary has more sophisticated definitions, although in my random check they seem to use less legalese than Black's. And the price of $14.99 fits between the other two dictionaries.

New on LLRX: Blackberry Apps for Lawyers

On June 30, 2009 Nicole L. Black published an article on LLRX.com titled Blackberry Apps for Lawyers. Nicole Black is an attorney in Rochester, New York and the founder of lawtechTalk, a company that educates businesses about emerging legal technologies and Internet and Web 2.0 technologies. As she writes it took some time to conduct the research.

First, there is a number of apps consisting of databases of federal and state laws, which allow lawyers to carry relevant laws and rules in their pockets in an easily accessible format.

From the developer “The Law Pod,” lawyers can purchase the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, Federal Rules of Evidence and the U.S. Constitution.

Nolo's Law Dictionary for iPhone

Via WisBlawg.com, Nolo has developed a free law dictionary for iPhones. It is available via iTunes and according to the iTunes description,

[i]t contains nearly 4000 legal terms defined in everyday, understandable language.

The dictionary is further described,

You'll find both the legal standards--Latin terms, courtroom jargon, contract basics--and newly minted terms that reflect the ever changing language of the law today.
